MARAETAI COUNSELLING
Child & Teen Counselling and Creative Arts Therapy in Beachlands, Maraetai
and East Auckland

ABOUT ME

I have been working with clients for the past 7 years as a Creative Arts Therapist, Play Specialist and Counsellor. While my work has mostly involved children, adolescents and their families, I also welcome adults who would like to make change and see improvement in their lives.

My experience with clients includes a range of issues, such as anxiety, low mood, gender and sexual identity, step-family dynamics, grief & loss, family violence, school refusal, parental separation, school refusal, learning differences, social, emotional and behavioural challenges, suicidal ideation, and trauma.
Tracey Laxon
Counsellor | Creative Arts Therapist | Teacher

Supporting children, teenagers and families across Beachlands, Maraetai, Omana, Clevedon, Whitford and the wider East Auckland area.
As a qualified counsellor, creative arts therapist and experienced teacher, I provide a safe, supportive space where children, young people and adults can explore their thoughts, feelings and challenges in ways that feel comfortable and meaningful to them.
Many children and teenagers find it difficult to express themselves through words alone. Creative arts therapy can help young people communicate emotions, build confidence and develop healthy coping skills through art, creativity, movement, play and conversation.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

EMMA, MUM
Tracey supported our family through a divorce. My six year old now has tools for life to help with managing relationships, anxiety, and emotional regulation. I highly recommend Tracey.

TEACHER
Tracey's calm, compassionate approach creates a safe space where children feel understood, supported and empowered to thrive both emotionally and academically.

MUM
After experiencing bullying at school, my child had lost confidence and was struggling emotionally. Tracey's support helped them feel safe, rebuild their self-esteem and find their smile again.
Counselling
Is an inter-personal relationship that enables clients to develop self-understanding and make positive change in their lives.

Person-centred counselling allows clients to recognise they have the resources and capacity to create meaningful and growth promoting choices in and about their own lives.

The counsellor and client work together to make change and develop successful outcomes for the client.

Creative Arts Therapy
The creative process of working with art resources is a safe way to explore inner experiences, raise personal awareness, and express emotions.
Allows clients to communicate in non-verbal ways, where unconscious thoughts and beliefs about oneself and the world around them can be explained. The creative arts are particularly useful when working with young people.
It is the creative process, and not the art itself that is useful in this approach to working with clients.
