Tracey Laxon

Counsellor, Creative Arts Therapist, Teacher

I am currently working with clients from Maraetai, Omana, Beachlands, Clevedon, and Whitford.

Sessions are held in person or online via Zoom or Skype.

Clients tend to meet weekly, with each session held for one hour.

Some clients meet with me in my home office,

others preferring to explore the beach, walk in the bush or play basketball while we talk.

The relationship I have with each client is built on trust, respect and genuine care,

in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.

ABOUT ME

I have been working with clients for the past 7 years as a Creative Arts Therapist, Play Specialist and Counsellor.  While my work has mostly involved children, adolescents and their families, I also welcome adults who would like to make change and see improvement in their lives.

My experience with clients includes a range of issues, such as anxiety, low mood, gender and sexual identity, step-family dynamics, grief & loss, family violence, school refusal, parental separation, school refusal, learning differences, social, emotional and behavioural challenges, suicidal ideation, and trauma.

Counselling

Is an inter-personal relationship that enables clients to develop self-understanding and make positive change in their lives.

Person-centred counselling allows clients to recognise they have the resources and capacity to create meaningful and growth promoting choices in and about their own lives.

The counsellor and client work together to make change and develop successful outcomes for the client.

Balance
Creative Arts Therapy

The creative process of working with art resources is a safe way to explore inner experiences, raise personal awareness, and express emotions.

Allows clients to communicate in non-verbal ways, where unconscious thoughts and beliefs about oneself and the world around them can be explained.  The creative arts are particularly useful when working with young people.

It is the creative process, and not the art itself that is useful in this approach to working with clients.
